2024 was a year of growth and progress for the Laurel Fire Department and the Laurel Police Department, with new hires, significant promotions, and salary increases aimed at strengthening the city's public safety services.

Laurel Police Department

The Laurel Police Department (LPD) saw several key changes in 2024, with new officers joining the team, as well as multiple promotions recognizing the dedication and hard work of its members.

In a special ceremony on July 25, 2024, Mayor Magee swore in Macon Davis and Jacob Giangrosso as sergeants. Additionally, Heath Blancett and Rodrigus Carr were sworn in as lieutenants.

On September 9, 2024, the department continued its commitment to recognizing outstanding service with several promotions. Sergeant Kenny Rogers was promoted to lieutenant, with his wife, Lorraine Rogers, participating in the ceremony.

Patrolman Shaymira Morgan was promoted to sergeant, and her 9-year-old daughter, Madison Ross, took part in the swearing-in. Also, Lt. David Grasha was assigned to lead the Laurel Police Training Center starting on September 16, 2024.

In addition to promotions, the Laurel Police Department also celebrated new recruits joining the force. On October 8, 2024, several new officers were sworn in. Among them were Dalton Ainsworth, Donovan Chastain, Joseph Couch, Susan Dykes, Allison Goldmon, and Danny Butler.

These milestones, coupled with the pay raises that the City of Laurel approved for both departments, reflect a growing commitment to the well-being and professional development of the individuals who serve the community.

Laurel Fire Department

The Laurel Fire Department also experienced a year of growth and recognition. On September 3, 2024, the department held a swearing-in ceremony at 9 a.m. for two new hires and five promotions. These promotions were made effective starting September 1, 2024 and included:

In addition, Firefighter Gabriel Jackson and Firefighter Carter Bales were sworn in as new hires to the department.

Another key promotion took place when Kenneth Brad Lowery was promoted from Captain to Battalion Chief, further strengthening the leadership of the Laurel Fire Department.

These changes in both departments reflect the city's commitment to improving its emergency services and ensuring that Laurel remains a safe and thriving community. The hiring and promotion of dedicated individuals who are committed to the safety and well-being of residents is a key part of Laurel’s ongoing efforts to enhance its public safety infrastructure.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
