Soon, telling someone in Laurel to “Kurl Up and Dye” won’t be an insult but rather an invitation to visit the city’s newest beauty supply store.
Kurl Up and Dye Beauty Supply will officially open its doors on Saturday, October 16. However, owners Ira Martin, Jr. and LaQuanda Barnes hosted the Jones County Chamber of Commerce at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 14 to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the new business.
“I would like to thank everyone for coming out and sharing this moment with us,” Martin said to his guests. “We’re excited.”
Martin said the he was most excited about “opening a business in the town that I am from and we are looking forward to serving the community.”
This is Martin’s second business venture. His first is a logistics company. He and a friend, who has since passed away, had always dreamed of opening a retail store. With his new business partner, LaQuanda Barnes, at his side Martin can finally see that dream become reality.
But he and Barnes weren’t the only ones who are optimistic about the venture. “Kurl Up and Dye!” Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee said prior to the ribbon cutting. “It’s a great name and it’s going to be a great business. One thing about Laurel, we fix hair!”
Martin’s parents, Ira Martin, Sr. and Shirley Martin, also joined in the celebration which included a brief reception with door prizes and refreshments. “We are a large, close-knit family and we support each other,” Shirley explained.
Kurl Up and Dye is located at 1514 West 10th Street in Laurel next to Tillery Dental clinic.
