Grant Staples of the Glory House in Laurel is amazed at how much progress he and his team have been able to make in the last few years. Since 2019, they have raised almost $900,000 that they have spent to rebuild and restore homes lost or damaged during the active 2019/2020 storm season. “That’s all the Lord,” Staples said noting that he never worries about the financial end of things. He’s a people person. The local missions agency began in 2015 to provide support for people in Laurel, Jones County, and the surrounding areas. Their food pantry alone currently provides for 1,000 families in seven counties.
Restore Jones County, the part of their organization designated to provide recovery services to those affected by natural disasters, has helped more than 20 families across Jones County repair and restore their homes following the December 2019 and April 2020 tornados.
Their latest project involves working with HGTV. “We have one more home to build and we are partnering with HGTV to do it,” Staples explained. The home belongs to an elderly, African-American couple. It sustained significant damage during a tornado in 2019. In order to complete the project, Glory House must raise $97,000. They are currently at $50,000.
