City Reminds Residents to Bring in Their Garbage Cans

The City of Laurel would like to remind residents that the city’s code of ordinances does not allow for bins, boxes, crates or any other permanent fixture for street side garbage storage. For example, some homeowners build receptacles that stay at the end of their driveways to put their garbage bags into throughout the week with the expectation that the bags will be picked up on garbage day and the box will stay at the end of the driveway. However, this is not allowed within the city limits. The city’s code of ordinances requires that city residents only place garbage at the end of their driveway in anticipation of garbage pick-up on or just before their garbage day. They are also required to retrieve their garbage cans from the end of their driveways once the garbage has been collected. Cans must be removed from the end of the driveway by the end of the day during which the garbage is picked up. For example, if garbage is collected at an address on Mondays, the resident at that address has until the end of the day on Monday to bring the garbage can back to the house. Permanent road side receptacles are not permitted. It is also important to note that garbage should be placed in garbage bags that are securely tied before being taken to the roadside for pickup.
