Talk about an awesome #Throwback Thursday!
In 2006 Lawrence and Marie De Peuter of Ontario, Canada were part of a Christian organization that visited Laurel to help repair and rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. At that time, south Mississippi was in the national spotlight because of the tragedy inflicted by the August 2005 storm. Today, the City of Laurel is in the national spotlight for decidedly more positive reasons.
The De Peuters never forgot Laurel or the friends they made here and have been watching the city’s latest turn in the limelight via HGTV’s “Home Town”. This week, they made their return to the City Beautiful and have been enjoying touring the city now that it is truly beautiful once again.
On Wednesday morning, they dropped in at City Hall to meet with Mayor Johnny Magee and later they caught up with Jessie Mae (Big Mamma) Williamson, who they had helped with home repairs 18 years ago.
