Love Our Seniors Parade Celebrates Public Transportation

July 3, 2023

DJ Transit recognized Mississippi Community Transportation Day with their second annual “We Love Our Seniors” parade. The parade was originally scheduled to coincide with the Mississippi Community Transportation Day on June 15th but had to be rescheduled due to threats of severe weather. The parade was held on Wednesday, June 28th at 10:30 a.m. and featured over 30 vehicles including a fire engine from the Laurel Fire Department and vehicles from the Laurel Police Department. The parade ran along West Drive to pay homage to the seniors who live in the many long-term care facilities on that route.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
