Laurel Plays makes donation to local soup kitchen

On Friday, January 19, AmeriCorps Program Director Kristi Howard delivered 150 cans of non-perishable items to the Good Samaritan Soup Kitchen in honor of Martin Luther King Day. The items were collected by Laurel Plays program staff and members.

“We were really excited about this project and so thankful that we were able to help our community,” Howard said. “I am so proud of my members and how they really showed out for this act of service.”

Kristi Howard, Supervisor Anthony Rogers, and Deputy Clerk Kristal Jones packed donated items to be delivered Friday.

AmeriCorps a federal agency for national service and volunteerism. AmeriCorps members provide volunteer services in communities across the country meeting community needs in education, public safety and health, and homeland security. Laurel Plays is a comprehensive development program that works with the AmeriCorps program to provide participants with opportunities to receive job training and educational awards while providing services to the city’s residents.
