Murph Senior Center Celebrates Second Quarter Birthdays

August 22, 2024

Each quarter, the Murph Senior Center hosts a group birthday party for its members who have celebrated their birthdays within the previous three months. On Tuesday, July 30th, the honorees and their guests met at the Laurel Train Depot from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to enjoy music, dancing, a stroll down the red carpet, and refreshments.

Honorees included Miranda Beard (April 12), Delores Banks (April 11), Elizabeth Barnes (June 25), Ruby Graves (April 1), Deborah Ramsey (April 13), and Tina Black (May 23rd).

They also paid special recognition to Ms. Lora Hinton who celebrated her 92nd birthday on July 31st.

“Happy Birthday,” Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee told the group. “Even though it’s not today. We’re glad that the City of Laurel is able to support this program and thankful for Ms. Lula Cooley. She loves doing it and we love her for doing it.”

The next quarterly birthday party is scheduled for September. More information about the Murph Senior Center and its many programs for seniors can be obtained by calling Murph Senior Center Director Lula Cooley at 601.438.0824.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
