On Monday September 9, AmeriCorps/Laurel Plays workers delivered cookie trays and thank you cards to the city’s firefighters and police officers in observance of the 23rd anniversary of 9/11. “It was our pleasure to honor the firemen and policemen of our community,” AmeriCorps Program Director Kristi Howard said. “They were very appreciative of our recognition of the service and sacrifice they provide and the sweet treat!”

“Mrs. Lo, pictured in the blue striped shirt, with Wal-Mart was gracious and kind to donate the cookies. She also enjoyed going with us to make the deliveries,” Howard stated.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
