City Beautiful Celebrates the Arrival of Fall

October 11, 2023

The first full week of October featured a taste of fall weather and anticipation for the annual Loblolly and Heritage Arts festivals on October 7th.  The pumpkin patch at First United Methodist Church was set up on Monday as volunteers unpacked a truckload of 100s of gourds to be sold through the season to benefit their youth group and City Hall was bedecked with autumn decorations including the appearance of our Scarecrow Mayor!

But it wasn’t all pumpkins and colorful leaves in Laurel last week. On Friday, Holi-Daze décor and more, hosted the Jones County Chamber of Commerce’s First Friday event and showed off their decorations for a different holiday – Christmas! The store is fully stocked with Christmas decorations and gifts including a selection of vintage toys.

To top it off, Laurel was featured prominently in the Wall Street Journal’s October 3rd issue!

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
