Music in the Galleries at LRMA

February 16 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This performance will inform and entertain local patrons of the arts to experience the traditional African American Spiritual in a new way. Composer/Arranger Damien Sneed set ten traditional Spirituals to include genres like gospel, Latin, jazz, and blues. Dr. Katrin Cox completed her doctoral project on this collection and took a deep dive into the historical and musical elements of the settings. She is joined by collaborative pianist, Bailey Hinton, a local producer and musician at Heartbeat Studios in Hattiesburg, MS. This is a lecture-recital unlike any other simply because audience participation is encouraged.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
