Family Health Center cuts ribbon for new mobile clinic

September 9, 2022

A clinic on wheels destined to give other facilities “clinic envy” was presented to the community on Friday, September 9 during a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by Family Health Center and the Jones County Chamber of Commerce.

Lee Smith, Director of Communications and Marketing for the Family Health Center explained that the new mobile clinic would “drastically expand” the organization’s ability to “deliver healthcare to people in our community.”

Dr. Ali of the Family Health Center explained that the clinic will allow them to go where no one else goes to serve people who would not otherwise be able to receive services.

Family Health Center, established in 1986,  provides Ob-Gyn, pediatric, and general medical care for over 15,000 people throughout their five county service area. The mobile clinic was purchased with an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant.

“We look forward to doing great things,” Dyann Mizell, Chairman of the Board for the Family Health Center said during the ceremony. Mizell, Ali, and Smith all thanked members of their staff and the community for their support of the clinic and its mission.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
