On Friday, August 12th Jones College staff members attended a professional development program in downtown Laurel that culminated with the Jones Downtown Takeover.
One hundred and fifty employees from the community college began their day at a professional development seminar at Laurel Little Theatre that was followed by break-out sessions at Laurel First United Methodist Church and Agape Church. The group enjoyed a luncheon at Lauren Rogers Museum of Art and ended the day by completing a series of challenges to foster teamwork and make improvements to downtown.
Participants were divided into 20 teams and were assigned five tasks including filling up planter boxes, picking up a t-shirt at Agape and presenting it to a community member to thank them for their service to the city, creating a music video in Leontyne Price Music Park, decorate a Jones-themed cookie at Shug’s, and sand and paint a section of the fence at the Art Park.
Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
