Laurel-Jones County Library wrapping up another fun-filled summer

July 29, 2024

The Laurel-Jones County Library is wrapping up another fun-filled summer reading program. The annual event kicked off on Tuesday, June 4th and will end with prize collection on Wednesday, July 31st.

The theme for this year’s program was “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and featured a poetry contest and a coloring contest for participants of all ages, a Bluey party, scavenger hunts, a water day, and a fire safety demonstration.

Kids were encouraged to read over the summer months and to track the books that they read in order to receive prizes.

Both downtown Laurel and Ellisville played host to scavenger hunts where students could find clues and crack the code to be entered into a drawing to win a gift card to one of the local downtown businesses.

While the summer reading program is coming to an end, the Laurel-Jones County library maintains a full calendar of events year-round for adventure seekers of all ages.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
