March for Jesus proclaimed, planned for May 18th

May 10, 2024

On Monday, May 6th, Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee signed a proclamation to recognize the annual March for Jesus Day in Jones County. The march will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024 in downtown Laurel. Participants will gather at Daphne Park at 9:30 a.m. and the march will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

This free community event is open to all members of the public regardless of denomination, and will feature prayers and songs of worship. It is part of a larger organization that host similar walks in 13 countries around the world.

Participants are encouraged to bring sun screen, water, and a folding chair. Pictured with Mayor Johnny Magee are Carolyn Sumrall, Darrell and Denise Hutto, and Joann Pena.

The proclamation read as follows:

Whereas, May 18, 2024, has been designated as March for Jesus Jones County Day in which Christians from across our area will gather not in protest but in an outward procession of prayer and praise and in a public demonstration of love toward God and all mankind; and

Whereas, the purpose of marching in the streets is to gather Christians of all denominations, races, and affiliations for a day of prayer unto God for our city, county, and nation, and to bring joy to our county through praise and to encourage the expression of love toward God and all mankind; and

Whereas the City of Laurel is honored to welcome all friends of Jesus to gather in His honor

Now, therefore, I, Johnny Magee, Mayor of the City of Laurel, Mississippi do hereby proclaim Saturday, May 18, 2024 as, March for Jesus Day Jones County and urge all citizens to actively participate by lifting up the Name of Jesus.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
