Mayfest Community Celebration for Seniors hosted in Laurel

June 14, 2024

On Friday, May 31st from 10 a.m. to noon, Chateau Senior Day Center in Laurel, hosted their first Mayfest Community Celebration for Seniors.

The event was open to members of the community as a way to help local seniors and their families learn more about the services offered by Chateau as well as multiple partner agencies.

“It’s a fun event for our clients and to attract more seniors in the community,” Chateau Senior Day Center owner, Shaundra Walker, said. “A lot of people don’t know we’re here.”

Chateau has been offering day services for local seniors for the last 11 years. Services offered include personal care, crafts and activities, and travel to local attractions and community events. Community partners for the event included South Central Regional Medical Center, Comfort Care Nursing Center, DJ Transit, Mississippi Department of Medicaid, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Family Health Center, the Laurel Housing Authority, the Laurel Police Department and the Laurel Fire Department.  Partners for this event set up on-site to provide information to attendees about resources available to them locally.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
