Roundabout at Leontyne Price Blvd. and Central Avenue set to Open Next Week

October 19, 2022

The City of Laurel is excited to announce the opening of the roundabout at Leontyne Price Blvd. and Central Avenue. The roundabout, which has been part of the extensive road improvements made to the downtown area in recent years, will be open for traffic on Wednesday, October 26th. It will be the city’s first two-lane roundabout and will open up the 500 block of Central Avenue to two-way traffic. Because many drivers may not have experienced traveling through a two-lane roundabout, the city would like to provide additional educational resources to assist our local drivers in making this transition. We are including a graphic and a link to a video provided by MDOT to help drivers navigate this new feature. The most important points for drivers to remember are to slow down, yield to all vehicles, choose the appropriate lane before entering the roundabout, and to stop for pedestrians. Additionally, drivers should never turn left into a roundabout.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
